Going for Your Goals: Striving for the Goal

To get ourselves prepped and in the right frame of mind for our goals lesson later this week let's take a few minutes to watch Chalene Johnson's short video on Striving for the Goal and Law of Attraction. Two important concepts we should embrace to help us on our quest for our own goals.

So what does the Law of Attraction mean? To put it simply it means that "like is attracted to like". Law of attraction suggests that all of our conscious thoughts, and everything related to it such as imagery and feelings somehow manifests into reality. Positive attitudes attract and inspire positive actions, while negative attitudes attract and create negative actions. So if I'm thinking "this is too hard, or I'm too fat" what does that get me, but continuing to feel bad about myself and then even doing actions that make it reality.

Going for Your Goals: Our Purpose

Today we're going to explore our purpose. Each of us has a purpose whether we are aware of it or not. In Brian Tracy's book Goals: How to Get Everything You Want he describes a definite purpose as the one goal out of however many we may have that is most important to us.

A definite purpose helps us focus during all of our waking moments which leads to actions that help us reach our purpose. Law of Attraction comes into play when we start thinking clearly about our purpose. We start to attract people, ideas, opportunities, resources and finances needed to help us reach our purpose. Any definite thoughts and purpose we have in our conscious mind will activate our sub-conscious mind.

Each of has a small, finger like part of the brain called "reticular cortex" that acts kind of like a cell phone tower for a large area; it divvy's out the signals to all those parts of the area that its needed. So when we send clear messages about our purpose it gets carried out to all areas of the brain for processing and allows us to be more alert to opportunities, people, and information that will help us achieve our goals.

Here's an example:

Let's say we decide we want a hot cherry red sports car (with navigation, blue tooth, and awesome stereo of course). Soon we start to see our hot cherry red sports car all over; on highways, parking lots, etc. We take notice of it because we have selected that as our purpose and its now on our radar. If we wanted a boat, motorcycle, etc. we would see the same thing. Any goal messages we send to our reticular cortex makes us more alert to all possibilities that will help us reach our goals.

When we are unclear about our goals we can feel as though we're in a fog and just kind of going through life. We miss many opportunities because we're unaware of them and can't see them. So basically negative talk leads to negative actions, positive talk leads to positive actions.

Our definite goal must have the following:
  1.  Goal must be something we personally want
  2. Goal must be clear and specific
  3. Goal must be measurable
  4. Goal must be achievable
  5. Goal must have a reasonable chance of success
  6. Goal must be in harmony with our other goals
Take a look at the goals you've written down so far and see if there is one that sticks out as your main goal. Then check to see if it has the above components. If not you may need to adjust your goals. No goal is wrong, we may just need to tweak it to be more clear about it.

Foods that Fight Stress

We now know that exercise can help us keep stress at bay. Did you know that there are certain foods that also help with stress? It's true! Check out this article on it! Click HERE! You may even want to stop at the grocery store on the way home.

Going for Your Goals: Why?

I would like to start the week off by answering a question someone posed to me. Why am I doing this? They said you're already on the right path, etc. If you figured out your path others will too. Yes it's true I am on my right path right now. However, if I were to stop being focused it could fall apart very easily. If I stop making new goals or revising the ones I already have it could fall apart. In other words its always a work in progress.

As far as helping others achieve their goals; well, people have helped me so I want to return that gift and help others. None of us goes it alone completely; there is always someone (sometimes someone we know, sometimes a stranger) that inspires us. I believe we are here to help each other through our life journey. For me; to not help would be a selfish act on my part.

So as we start this week let's reflect on each of our "why's". Now is a good time to figure out what we're doing this journey for. By now we've learned that if we're not doing this for ourselves it's not going to be fulfilling or may not even work out. We must stay true to our core values, beliefs and desires. By doing so we are in a better position to be there for others. Take a few minutes to write down your why's to see where you're at. If you see you need to readjust your goals take some time to read back on our previous lessons to help you determine your goals. Keep at it! We are on the right path to our paths!

Are You Addicted to Sugar?

Many of us have an undeniable sweet tooth and have a really tough time staying away from sugar. If we have to have something sugary to get through our day, we may be hooked on the sugar. Sugar in small doses is fine, but the problem is sugar is in almost every processed food out there and if we don't pay attention to how much a day we're consuming it can become a problem that results in weight gain, diabetes, and many other problems. Check out this article on sugar addiction. It lists some steps for us to take to lessen our dependence on sugar. Going for Your Goals: Determine Your Goals

Are you having a hard time determining your true goals? That's okay! A lot of us struggle with our goals; often we just have a general idea, but no certainty. This week we'll focus on determining our goals with the help of Brian Tracy's book: How to Get Everything You Want.

The steps we've taken up until now have helped us determine our values and who we are; it's given us a sense of clarity about ourselves which is related to what we do and accomplish in life. To ignite our desires and passion for our goals, our goals must be personal. In other words our goals shouldn't be related to what others want of us or for us, or for someone else. This doesn't mean we focus only on ourselves, we can and should help others as needed, but when it comes to our own goals they should be for ourselves.

Now we've come to that tough question we all struggle with sometimes: What do I want to do with my life? At first we think it's an easy question and can come up with easy answers, but when we start to really think about it, it becomes a much more serious question that deserves serious thought and answers.

If you could do anything at all in your life, what would you do? Would you climb the tallest mountain, tour the world, start a business, raise a family, fight unjustness, etc? If you can't see the target, we can't hit it. To determine your goals use your values, vision, and ideals. At first you may feel like you're fantasizing, but that's okay. We here to make these goal fantasies a reality.

Let's take a look at some questions that will help us target our goals:

  1. List your three most important goals in your business and career as of right now.
  2. List your financial goals as of right now
  3. List your three most important goals with your family or relationships as of right now
  4. List your three most important health and fitness goals as of right now.
Review your answers and think about the opposite of these questions; my three biggest concerns in life as of right now. Think about what bothers you, what's holding you back, the concern that's in your thoughts most. Once you've clearly identified your concerns think about the following:

  1. What is the ideal solution to my concerns?
  2. Is there a healthy way to eliminate my concerns immediately?
  3. What is the best way to solve each problem?
Maybe there's a series of solutions you need to do to alleviate your concerns, or maybe you need to look at the situation in a different way to see the solution, but there is always a healthy solution. Often we know what to do, but are just afraid to step out of our comfort zone. Once you do though, you will feel a weight lift off of you and you will feel such a sense of freedom from whatever has been holding you back from achieving your goals. It's up to you my friends.

I'll leave you with this thought; if you do nothing where will you be in three months? Exactly where you are now. If you determine your goals and take steps to achieve them, where will you be in three months? Who knows! The possibilities are endless!

Look out for that Belly!

Belly bulge can be cute on some people; for instance Santa, but for most of us belly bulge isn't cute and it can be dangerous. Even if you're not considered to be overweight, if you've got a belly bulge going you're health could be at risk.

So what can we do about a belly bulge? Say it with me, you know this; eat healthy and exercise! You got it! Healthy foods, healthy portions and working out equals goodbye belly bulge!

Check out this article all about the Belly bulge!  http://health.yahoo.net/news/s/ap/us_med_waist_size_mortality

Remember, it's not selfish of us to take time to take care of ourselves. It's selfish of us to not take care of ourselves when there are others that rely on us and love us, such as our children, spouses, family and friends. Many have learned that lesson the hard way. Hopefully, we can all learn it the easier way before we have to learn it the hard way too.

Going for Your Goals: Got Values?

We're taking a deeper look at our values with the help of Brian Tracy's book Goals: How to Get Everything You Want. First things first, we've got to trust ourselves. Sounds like a no brainer, but many of us have self doubt and instead of listening to our inner voice we listen to the loud obnoxious negative voice we all have. When that voice rears its ugly head it can be hard to ignore and can cause us to doubt ourselves.

We become better and stronger, and even great when we have a strong core belief in ourselves. Having a strong belief in ourselves helps us to ignore the negative voices inside us and start listening to the inner voice. So how do we get to the point that we do listen to our inner voice and have that belief in ourselves? Stay true to your values and that self trust will get built up.

To figure out our values all we have to do is look at our behavior because we all show our true values in our actions and behavior. How have you behaved in the past under pressure? Think about the choices you've made regarding money and time. How has that impacted your life today? Is there anything you want to change?

One thing we've got to drill into ourselves is that our past is our past; it doesn't have control over our present or future, we do. We can change our current path any time we want by changing our values, making and keeping decisions we've made and staying true to our values. We become what we think about all the time. So if I'm constantly thinking I'm too fat; guess what, eventually I start doing behaviors that make it true.

Believing in ourselves is not a selfish act; it gives us the ability to believe in others and support them on their own journey. By being the best we can be, we then have more to offer to those we love. Being the best we can be will help us figure out what we want out of life and determine our goals. Remember, your goals must be what you want, not what someone wants for you or what you think you should be for someone else.

Below are some questions on our values. Take some time to answer these questions for yourself: Don't forget to write them down so you can refer to your answers later on when we take another look back at how far we've come!
  1. List 3 values that are important to you today
  2. What qualities and values are you known for?
  3. What qualities and values do you want to be known for?
  4. What are your values regarding relationships? Money?
  5. Are you practicing the values that are important to you?
  6. What one change can you make today that can help you be in harmony with your values?
I'll leave you with one last thought today. "It doesn't matter where you're coming from; all that really matters is where you're going". Brian Tracy.

Going for Your Goals: Look How Far We've Come

I hope everyone has had a chance to take a look at the Freebie I posted the other day. Its well worth a few minutes of your time. Take what you can from it and leave the rest.

Today I'd like for all of us to take some time to look back at all the notes we've taken so far on this journey and do a comparison with ourselves. Check out some of the questions and your answers and see if you would answer any differently today than you did then. Has your thought process begun to change? Are you feeling more positive in any or all aspects of your life? What areas do you still need to work on?

Are you surprised by some of your responses today from when you first did them? If so congratulations are in order! You're changing your life for the better! If you find that you're in the same frame of mind as when we started please don't beat yourself up for it. It just means you have to dig a little deeper and figure out what's not working and maybe change the way you're doing something. Not one way works for everyone! Figure out what works for you and leave the rest!

If you need some encouragement look to your friends and family or you can always email me at coachcarlam@yahoo.com.  Remember we're on this life journey together.

For some inspiration here's the twelfth video of Wayne Dyer's Excuses Be Gone series. Enjoy!

Going for Your Goals: Values

This week we're going to take a look at our values. You may be wondering what our values have to do with defining our goals and making plans to get to them. Well, values define who we are as a person so when we have a clear understanding about what our values are, it helps us take more precise steps and actions to get to our goals.

According to Brian Tracy, author of Goals: How to Get Everything You Want there are several layers that make up our personality.

  1. Our values determine our beliefs
  2. Our beliefs determine our expectations
  3. Our expectations determine our attitude
  4. Our attitude determines our actions
The common thread here is that if you have positive values such as kindness, love, and generosity your beliefs will guide you to treat people with kindness. love and generosity. If you have positive values you will believe positive things about yourself and others, and will expect good things to happen. Our attitudes are our outward expression of our values, beliefs and expectations so anyone with a positive attitude treats others and themselves in a positive way, has a more positive outlook on life, and is generally more optimistic and successful.

When we live outside our values and our goals go against our values we tend to develop negative attitudes, act out negatively, have uncertainty and unhappiness. When we live in alignment with our values we tend to feel more positive, act in a positive manner, are more certain of ourselves and have a sense of happiness. This is why it's important for us to determine our values so we can structure our goals in alignment with our values.

I think I just heard an "aha" moment from everyone. I know I had one when I first read this.

We've got some homework today. I'd love for each of us to go to http://www.values.com/your_billboards and check out some of the billboards that people have created for themselves. Then create your own billboard! Anything you want! Get inspired by some of the others that people have posted and go for it!
