Going for Your Goals: Beliefs

The Law of Belief, a mental law, says that whatever we believe becomes our reality. Brian Tracy says we view the world through our beliefs, attitudes, prejudices, etc. We can change our beliefs about ourselves which leads to our personal growth. Do you want to increase your income? Do you BELIEVE you can?

Have doubts? Think of it like this; we've all increased our incomes since our first jobs. We've all had something that we met and went beyond the possibility of; so we can do it again, we just have to believe it's possible.

Brian Tracy said "Your self confidence precedes and predicts your levels of performance and effectiveness in everything you do". Our beliefs about ourselves are subjective and often incorrect. Our self limiting beliefs limit us, even if what we believe is not true. Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison were thought to be not too smart and treated as such. Yet they persevered because they believed in their own possibilities, not those that others had set on them.

All of our beliefs are learned so any that are not beneficial to us we can unlearn. Brian Tracy says something in his book Goals: How to Get Everything You Ever Wanted that I think is extremely on point and will hopefully hit home with all of us. "No one is better than you and no one is smarter than you. People are just smarter or better in different areas at different times."

When we believe in something we start to act, walk and talk as if everything is part of our goals in life to help us be successful. The Law of Reversibility means that even though you may not be at your goals at the moment if we start to act as if we are, our actions generate feelings that go with the goals we want. We act our way into feeling the way we want to feel.

Okay, that said, let's work on changing our beliefs right now. Let's start with: I am destined to be a great success in life. What thoughts does that conjure up in your mind? Possibilities? Start thinking about the possible and start telling yourself this daily, many times a day. Write down how it makes you feel, any change in your behaviors you may be noticing due to you actually starting to believe it. Let yourself go into the world of possiblity and Imagine...

Going for Your Goals: That Positive Thinking thing Doesn't Go Away!

We've been doing some hard work to open up our minds to the possibilities that exist in our lives so we can figure out what are goals are. And what's a big part of this journey? You got it, positive thinking! Yes, positive thinking is back!

I like to go back to this subject now and again so that we remember to continue practicing positive thinking. It's easy to get off course and lose our way. Positive thinking re-enforcement puts us back on track and ready to tackle whatever faces us.

Mayoclinic has an article about positive thinking that is short and to the point. It also highlights the self talking we all do and the many benefits of positive thinking. If anybody's going to know the benefits of positive thinking it's the Mayoclinic! Take a read through their article on it and take what you can from it and leave the rest. This is homework! Be ready to dive into it next week! :) Enjoy! Click HERE!

Going For Your Goals: Dealing with the Negative

Some people have a natural tendency to be a bit negative, which is okay. It's not so great to deal with when a person is inflicting their negativity onto others. Other people's negativy can impact us and what we're doing to reach our goals in small ways which can have some bigger consequences, but it doesn't have to be that way. We can work around those in our lives that are a bit negative and deal with those that are negatively impacting on our lives. Here's a video of Chalene Johnson talking about how to deal with negative people. Some useful tips here to help! Click HERE!

Going for Your Goals: All in Our Minds

One thing we've learned as we're going through the lessons of goal setting and achieving is that a big part of it is to have a positive mindset. Here's an article about people who are considered to be lucky. It examines why some people are lucky while others aren't, and the traits of the lucky people. It's a good read and reinforces what we've been learning! Click HERE!

Going for Your Goals: Honesty & Determination

Today is a great day to make a change in our lives! Let's start by taking a look at what Brian Tracy, author of Goals! How to Get Everything You Want has to say about it.

One thing we need to pay attention to when setting goals for ourselves is that we need to be honest with ourselves and not sabotage ourselves before we've even begun. Too many times people set high goals for themselves that are either unachievable (such as world peace) or they just kind of wait for it to happen which leads to disappointment. Saying you want your goal to be world peace is a great gesture, however, one person does not have influence over the world. We do however have influence on those around us including friends, family, neighbors, and community. This could be a goal; peace and respect amongst each other, which can ultimately spread to other people and so on.

Simply stating a goal and then waiting for it to materialize is unrealistic as well. We must have a plan on how to obtain goals in order to be able to achieve them and we have to be willing to work for our goals.

What one goal would you go after if you knew you were guaranteed success? Write down your answer. Were you able to write it down or did you brush it off as a fanciful thought? If you wrote it down  that means you take that goal somewhat seriously which means you could possibly reach that goal. Next question: How? How and what do you have to do to make that goal a reality? Are you willing to work hard for that goal? If so, congratulations because your on your way!

Here is a great exercise:

  1. Write down ten goals (write them in the present tense as though you've already reached the goals)
  2. Now pick one goal, if you were to accomplish immediately, would have the most positive impact on your life
  3. Write down the goal you chose on a separate piece of paper and then write down absolutely everything you can think of that you can do to reach that goal
  4. Select one action to take from that list
  5. Write the goal on a 3x5 index card and keep it with you & review regularly
  6. The only question to ask yourself is "How". How are you going to achieve each step to achieve your goal.
Go for it!!!

Going for Your Goals: Comfort Zone

Welcome back! Hope everyone had a great holiday and is ready to get down to it with our goals! To get us out of the gate let's take a look at Brian Tracy's (author of the book we're using to help us reach our goals) short video on our Comfort Zone.

Many of us stay stuck because we're comfortably uncomfortable in our current status quo. Sometimes we think its easier to stay stuck then move forward into the great unknown. The unknown can be scary, but its actually scarier to stay stuck and have nothing change. To help us with that check out Brian Tracy's Comfort Zone video. Click HERE!
